Greenville Comic Con

For the first time in 10 years the Greenville Comic Con returned. Thanks to good promotion and word of mouth it turned out to be a very good show. Or at least for the Wide Awake Press crew it was. We did very well and had a lot of creators on hand to sign copies of Wide Awake 666.

At the Wide Awake Press booth was:
Duane Ballenger
J Chris Campbell
Gregory Dickens
Justin Gammon
Ashley Holt
Jamie Ouzts

Having done a lot of local shows in the past I was just looking to hang out with the fellas, draw and make fun of each other. But we were very busy most of the show, which was a pleasant surprise. So I'm for sure looking forward to the next Greenville Comic Con. See you there!

Duane was able to sneak attack a run of Uncanny X-men he'd been "Looking For." Finally a chance for vengence!

Justin Gammon did an outstanding job of running the Wide Awake Press booth. Running the cash box, making signs and staying with the table most of the day.

Foster came out to support the efforts and ended up eating 33 free lollypops.

Thankfully Holli was there to keep him under control with her mommy like powers.

Wide Awake 666 was a big hit! We even donated a copy that was signed by 6 of the creators. People seemed to enjoy the Scary Funny goodness inside.

It was a standard size room for this sort of show. But it was packed slam out with all sorts of comic booky yumminess.

There was a guy there going around and asking all the artists for drawings of StarMan. So Duane, Justin and J Chris knocked some out for him.

The Wide Awake Press guys probably did more drawings at this show than they had at SPX just a few weeks earlier..

As always JCC had his Fat Packs out on the table. With customized swanky envelopes to make the deal even more sweat.

WAP was set right beside those fine southern gents, Mark and Keith, of Comics Wanted. Mark Roper has been a contributor to many earlier Wide Awake Press publications. He's a fine chap.

Jamie Ouzts, Duane Ballenger, Jamie Walker (peaking from DB shoulder) and Common Bonder Wess "create table buzz" by blocking the WAP table while Justin Gammon mans the booth.

Duane and Jamie are overwhelmed with joy. No really. They were just pretending to not have fun, right? I didn't take this picture so I assume that's what's going on. I do know Jamie did leave for a haircut but that was because his hair was long, not because he was bored. That's my story at least.

Here we have Mr. Ashley Holt putting his touches on a copy of Wide Awake 666. When he was young he had a horrible accedent with a Rubix Cube and an Atari 2600. Ever since then his face has looked that way.

"Ha Ha Ha, it's fun to be grown men who enjoy laughing at each other in privacy of local comic book conventions."

"Daddy, you like lollypops?" "Yes son, can I have that one?"
"Daddy, you like keep on living?"

Final proof that Jamie Walker is not Spider-Man but may be the Bucktooth Rocker.

Gregory Dickens was there for a while, he may have left earlier if we hadn't trapped him behind the wall of comics.

It really was a fun show, and I hope we can get more local contributors to come out to the next one. All the attendies were really nice and represented a nice broad section of comic fans.

Shelton was there with a very nice wall of comics and boxes and boxes of great back issues. At the end of the show he hit up Wide Awake Press for some issues of WA666 for Heroes in Charlotte.

r After the show, we dropped the disco ball and kicked out the jams. It was a comic book dance party all night long! But not really. But there was a disco ball the entire show. It just wasn't on, an extreme oversight of the planning commity.
