Mocca Art Festival 2005
New York City June 11&12
I honestly don't know a lot about New York, but I do know you have to be a special type of person to drive around. So if you ever get a chance, have Rob Ullman drive you.
I drove up from Greenville SC on Thursday and stayed the night with Rob and his super nice wife, Brooke. Friday we drove from Richmond Virginia up to New York and I switched off with Rob before we reached the big apple.
I don't really know how the term bottleneck came about. It's a fairly good term for describing what happens when a ton of cars exit 15 different toll booths and have to all squeeze into a 2 lane road and only have 45 feet to do it in. It creates the shape of a bottleneck. But in a bottle the liquid flows nicely thru the neck and out the end. This was like a bumper car pile up, with everyone trying to get through but without hitting anyone. I can't begin to describe how we got through this mess, I had my eyes closed most of the time. That's when I realized I had made a good choice with having Rob drive. He got us through that mess and a couple of other spots like some guilty pleasure of his. Wide eyed and smiling like it was Christmas morning.

We got a great parking space right outside Greg's place and that's where it stayed until we were ready to leave on Monday.

You could spend years in this city and never see it all. Huge is totally redefined when you get here. Especially the distances you walk. Boy oh boy my dogs were barking on Monday, if you know what I mean.

Rob's good friend Greg put us up at his apartment in Brooklyn. It was a really great hood and I didn't get stuck with a knife once. I even road the Subway like 3 times. Not one knife wound on my entire body. But I'm still looking.
Being a little out of shape I found it harder to adapt to all the whatta ya call it? Oh yeah, "walking." "It's not very far maybe 8 more blocks," was Greg's favorite response of the weekend.

I got a few really cool books at the show. Not as much as I usually do, not because it wasn't there. Mainly because I was trying to hold back and I didn't really get to look around a whole lot. Mostly my eyes were searching for screen printed goodies and Bwana Spoons really delivered.
Lisa Pitzer picked up the I heart NY little outfit for lil' Foster, she's a super nice lady.

Rob Ullman decided to frustrate me even more by advertising a comic book that he never intends on doing. Tales To Befuddle!! Man I would buy that book in a skinny minute.

Mr. Josh Cotter was one of the best table buddies ever. He's a really nice guy and I'm sure I drove him crazy with all my fat sweaty guy jokes. His wife was a treat to have around especially when Josh's Narcolepsy kicked in.

Lisa gives the "Half Fonzie" from behind the AdHouse Books table. While hubby Chris P trolls the room for goodies and undiscovered talent.
I was set up at the end of the AdHouse Books table both days. Many thanks to James Jean for not making it to the show. His book went like crazy and almost sold out before Project: Superior did. I snagged a copy of Josh Cotter's amazingly cool book Sky scrappers of the Midwest #2 and found out he draws pretty much actual size with a tiny pin point. I hate him and his steady hand.

The show was really great. This is a birds eye view from my spot in the room. Tons of natural lighting and it was pretty comfortable except for an hour or so on Saturday when it got really hot. I heard the other 2 rooms were always hot. Click here to see a larger image of the room. That's about all the photos, I didn't get out much and if I did it was for goodies. I wish I had taken a shot of Andy Runton and his award for best new artist. Chris Pitzer did over here along with some other shots of MoCCA and TCAF.

Kick'n it on the roof with the NY boys and Master Namllu! Unfortunately both nights were overcast so the stars were hidden, but it was still nice up there.
Thanks to Rob and Brooke "Best Ribs in Richmond" Ullman for putting up with me. Big ups to Greg for the open arms in his home and city. Extra love for Chris Pitzer for giving me a little room at his booth and for Lisa and Him walking my ass around way past their nap time. I also want to thank Haversham Laboratories for putting my mauled body back together. I'm ready for the Heroes Convention in 2 weeks!

I missed my baby boy and wife a lot. So here's another pic of me talking on the phone. This one taken moments before the Brooklyn Rooftop Werewolf rips me to shreds.
